Mitchell graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of South Florida, where she was selected to become a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, Laurie worked in ICU/CCU, ER, Pediatrics, Med/Surg, and Geriatrics. She became Head Nurse of the Emergency Department, continued to teach specialized classes to other nurses, and worked as a helicopter Trauma Nurse. She also worked as Utilization Review Coordinator reviewing physician care for appropriateness and reimbursement. Laurie became interested in law school while attending a deposition being taken by a lawyer with little or no medical background. It was then she realized as a lawyer she would have a lot to offer clients with complex medical problems and serious injuries. Although knowledge of the law is necessary to bring a claim or file a lawsuit, an in depth knowledge of medicine and often nursing are required to flush out negligence and maximize recovery when the case involves personal injuries. This is true for all injury related cases whether the case stems from an auto accident, semi-truck accident, medical malpractice, or wrongful death. Ms. Mitchell attended the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin Law School and graduated in 1986 with a Juris Doctorate degree. Since becoming an attorney, Ms. Mitchell has practiced exclusively representing seriously injured victims in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, birth injury, premise liability and nursing home negligence.
